Snow hits Scotland today as 'Arctic air' and heavy rain forecast in severe weather alert

Snow and 'Arctic air' are set to blast Scotland this week after unsettled weather follows mild conditions over the New Year.

The Met Office has issued three yellow weather warnings for snow, ice and wind beginning as early as Monday afternoon.

Snow has already hit Scotland, with the Met Office confirming flurries falling over parts of the Highlands and Aberdeenshire on Monday morning.

State Pension payments will rise in April - here are the new weekly rates

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed that State Pension payments will increase by 3.1% in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from April 11, 2022.

This means the basic State Pension will increase to £141.85 per week from £137.60, the equivalent of £567.40 each month and the full new State Pension will increase to £185.15 from £179.60, which amounts to £740.60 each month.

Nicola Sturgeon is set to give a coronavirus update to the Scottish Parliament later this week after cases reached record numbers over New Year.

Presiding Officer Alison Johnstone confirmed earlier today that MSPs would hear from the First Minister during a virtual sitting on Wednesday.

The SNP leader will give a 20-minute statement on the latest figures from across the country and announce if any new measures will be introduced to halt the spread of covid.

A young woman who died on Christmas Eve after a horror crash on the M8 has been described as 'one of a kind' by her heartbroken friends.

The woman, named locally as 20-year-old Brooke Russell, suffered serious injuries after her car left the eastbound carriageway near a bridge over the Union Canal, West Lothian, on December 23 and she died in hospital the next day.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash and anyone with information to come forward.

Rose decided to shared some pictures from the past year on her Insta, and wrote alongside the meaningful images: "Stay afraid, but do it anyway. What's important is the action. You don't have to wait to be confident. Just do it and eventually the confidence will follow."
