Monchengladbach sporting director provides Denis Zakaria update amid Manchester United interest

Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl has clarified the current rumours linking Denis Zakaria with a move to Manchester United.

The Swiss midfielder has six months left on his current Gladbach deal and was reportedly of interest in Ralf Rangnick for a cut-price move during this window.

Manchester Evening News understands that is not the case, though Zakaria has been monitored by the recruitment department.

Eberl remains reluctant to comment on speculation linking the 25-year-old elsewhere though appeared to hint to German outlet Spox, relayed by InsideFootball, that a January move remains unlikely.

[There is] nothing on my desk,'' he said. “There are now rumours that are not of any interest to us.”

Having featured in all but three of Gladbach's 18 Bundesliga games so far this season, Zakaria is seen as key to Gladbach, who are currently down in 12th, with qualification for European football looking increasingly unlikely for next season.
