The motorcyclist who died when his bike crashed with a truck on Sunday morning was heading to a family gathering.

Michael Kremisis was going to meet his grandfather and the rest of the family at a club in Wanniassa when the crash happened.

He was treated at the scene but died in hospital.

The victim had his own crash repair business in Wanniassa.

A friend said: "Michael was wonderful. He was just the most caring, loving man who was wonderful."

She accepted he was no angel but said, "he was an angel to the family. He was great with kids."

She said Mr Kremisis was single with no children.

Emergency services including ACT Ambulance, ACT Fire and Rescue and ACT Policing went to the scene just before noon.

Mr Kremisis died in hospital after being treated by paramedics at the site of the crash at the junction of Ashley Drive and Barraclough Crescent in the southern Canberra suburb.

ACT Policing was investigating the incident, and a report was to be prepared for the coroner.

By 4.20pm, ACT Policing told motorists that Ashley Drive and Barraclough Crescent were clear.

Police said in a statement the incident was the fourth fatality on an ACT road this year.

Anyone with information or dash cam footage from about the time of the incident at Monash is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
