Monaco winger Gelson Martins suspended 'indefinitely' for twice shoving referee

Monaco winger Gelson Martins has been banned “indefinitely” for pushing a referee.

Martins, 24, twice pushed referee Mikael Lesage during Monaco’s 3-1 Ligue 1 defeat at Nimes on 1 February.

He first pushed Lesage after team-mate Tiemoue Bakayoko was shown a red card midway through the first-half.

Lesage then pulled his red card out for a second time, at which point Martins shoved him again.

Ligue 1 has now announced that Martins will be suspended “indefinitely” pending a Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) investigation.

The minimum suspension that Martins is likely to receive is an eight-game suspension, while the most severe punishment would see him ruled out for six months.

Bakayoko received a two-match ban.
