Tottenham clung on for a goalless draw on a testing evening for them against Monaco in the Champions League. Thomas Frank’s side were under the cosh for much of their third game back at Europe’s top table, and they had their goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario to thank on countless occasions as the hosts peppered the visiting goal. Sebastien Pocognoli, making his home debut as Monaco boss, saw his side take the game to their Premier League opponents, and former Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun had three golden opportunities to open the scoring in the first half.
All three times he was denied by Vicario, who was alive in the second period as well to save Spurs’ blushes. Takumi Minamino, the ex-Liverpool forward, also had three chances to net a late winner as the Frenchmen continued their barrage, while Maghnes Akliouche and Ansu Fati buzzed dangerously in the pockets as free-roaming No10s.
Xavi Simons, dropped to the bench by Frank, came on but had little impact in a disjointed Spurs performance where they offered nothing in the final third, with Philipp Kohn in the home net hardly having to make a save. Micky Van de Ven came closest as he nodded over from close range in the opening 45 minutes, but that was as far as Frank’s side came as they ground out a point that they will be mightily relieved to have escaped with.

Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
21:54 , Oli Gent90+3 mins: Why didn’t he shoot! Simons works the space nicely as he cuts in from the left, but he goes for the backheel rather than the strike!
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
21:51 , Oli Gent90 mins: Six added minutes.
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham

Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
21:42 , Oli Gent83 mins: Close! Another one for Minamino, who flashes a shot over, in far too much space in the box!
Matt Verri reports
21:41 , Oli Gent82 mins: That sub might give you an insight into how Frank is viewing these final 15 minutes or so. Suggests he's happy with a point.
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
21:39 , Oli Gent80 mins: Spence comes on for Kudus.
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
21:39 , Oli Gent79 mins: Close! Another superb move from Monaco as the ball is nodded into the path of Minamino, who tries to prod home on the stretch, but it’s over the top! Spurs living dangerously.
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
21:37 , Oli Gent77 mins: Great save! How Monaco are ahead I do not know. Vicario produces another brilliant save from point-blank range to deny Teze.
Matt Verri reports
21:33 , Oli Gent74 mins: That sums up Simons' start to life at Spurs. The visitors are breaking with space and numbers, and he decides to turn back and then play a really poor pass that is intercepted. Has to be better than that
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
21:29 , Oli Gent71 mins: Brennan Johnson and Randal Kolo Muani are the two replacing Odobert and Richarlison.
Two changes for the hosts as well, as Fati and Ouattara are replaced by Mawissa and Minamino.
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
21:28 , Oli Gent70 mins: Close! Another chance for the hosts as Thilo Kehrer’s glancing header is agonisingly wide!
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
21:27 , Oli Gent69 mins: Close! Golovin goes for a poked effort on the edge of the D, and Vicario makes the save. It’s one for the cameras.
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
21:27 , Oli Gent68 mins: Problem for Spurs as Odobert receives treatment and looks uncomfortable as he leaves the field.
Matt Verri reports
21:25 , Oli Gent67 mins: Monaco haven't kept a clean sheet all season but Spurs haven't really troubled them tonight. Simons on the pitch now and the visitors need to braver in pushing for all three points.
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
21:24 , Oli Gent64 mins: Those changes from Frank were needed, with the game just having a bit of a lull at the moment. What can Simons do? Kolo Muani is getting spoken to by the Spurs boss now.
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
21:20 , Oli Gent60 mins: Two changes for Spurs as Pape Sarr and Xavi Simons are introduced for Bentancur and Bergvall.
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
21:17 , Oli Gent58 mins: Change for Monaco, with Golovin replacing Diatta.
Matt Verri reports
21:17 , Oli Gent57 mins: Long discussion between Kudus and Porro over who was going to take that free-kick in a perfect position for Spurs. Porro wins the debate... he won't win the next one. Straight into the wall and a real waste.
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
21:16 , Oli Gent56 mins: It’s Porro, and it’s into the wall.
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
21:14 , Oli Gent54 mins: Free kick, Tottenham. Another good burst infield from Archie Gray from left-back, and he’s chopped down in a great position for Spurs. A nice distance for Porro, who has claimed the ball. Can he work Kohn?
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
21:12 , Oli Gent53 mins: Really deep corner, which finds no-one from Kudus, and Van de Ven is blocking the goalkeeper illegally, apparently.
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
21:11 , Oli Gent52 mins: Corner, Tottenham. Odobert is direct against Kehrer, stepping inside, with his effort deflecting off the German. Chance here, perhaps?
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
21:10 , Oli Gent51 mins: Great skill from Akliouche, who is showing exactly why he was on Spurs’ radar over the summer. The Frenchman sends his marker to the shops with a lovely feint, cutting back inside onto his left. He tries to beat Vicario at the near post, but the Italian is wise to it.
Matt Verri reports
21:07 , Oli Gent49 mins: Richarlison with as good a contact as he's made with anything in a few weeks. Unfortunately it's Salisu's face.
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
21:07 , Oli Gent48 mins: Salisu is down after a high foot from Richarlison. The former Southampton defender is holding his head, but he’s up and seemingly ok.
Kick off!
21:05 , Oli Gent46 mins: We’re back underway.
HT: Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
20:50 , Oli GentThere’s the interval, and Spurs with a chance to regroup, after a half where they were under the cosh!
What will the second half have in store?
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
20:48 , Oli Gent45+1 min: Spurs (again) looking at their most dangerous from set-pieces. Danso should probably score at the back post there, great delivery from Kudus. The north London corner derby is November 23, for those wanting to mark their cards.
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
20:47 , Oli Gent45 mins: Two added minutes.
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
20:45 , Oli Gent43 mins: A good run from Bergvall, getting to the right byline to deliver a cross. Teze covers across well to divert the delivery behind for a corner.
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
20:42 , Oli Gent40 mins: A nice floated ball from bergvall into Danso, who makes contact and directs a header goalwards, but he’s penalised for a push.
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
20:38 , Oli Gent36 mins: Great save! A third really good chance for Balogun, as he goes for the corner first-time. It’s a powerful effort that Vicario gets down to smartly!
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
20:37 , Oli Gent35 mins: Kudus shows quick feet to make room for the shot, and he goes on his right foot. He can’t quite get the power on it, however, and that’s easy for Kohn.
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
20:34 , Oli Gent32 mins: Almost! A long throw from Danso, and there’s no first contact. It comes out for Porro who strikes, but he’s leaning back and it’s over the top.
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
20:32 , Oli Gent30 mins: Close! A sweeping move from Spurs, and it comes to Richarlison, who has peeled away on the left side of the box. He looks to hit one, but Salisu converges on him quickly!
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
20:30 , Oli Gent29 mins: Close! A really clever ball from Akliouche, looking for Balogun who spins in behind, and Vicario smothers well!
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
20:28 , Oli Gent26 mins: Awkward one! Akliouche looks to lob it to the back post over Vicario, who flaps at it and just about manages to get a fingertip to it! Another scare for Spurs.
Matt Verri reports
20:25 , Oli Gent25 mins: Better signs on the left wing for Spurs. Odobert nice and direct when he's getting the ball and a couple of nice clipped crosses into the box already. Visitors starting to get going in attack and Van de Ven should probably have done better with that flicked header.
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
20:24 , Oli Gent23 mins: Balogun is being a nuisance up top for the hosts. He’ll be keen to stamp his mark on the game as a former Arsenal man.
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
20:22 , Oli Gent20 mins: Chance! Odobert does well on the left, cuts in and spins a ball in for Van de Ven who attacks it, and he nods over the top!
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
20:19 , Oli Gent17 mins: More danger for Spurs to avert as Diatta goes on a jinking run down the right, and checks back, looking to catch Vicario out at the near post. It’s blocked, and Porro wins the free kick from the second phase.
Matt Verri reports
20:16 , Oli Gent15 mins: Unsurprisingly with a reshuffled defence, Spurs not looking quite as solid as they have for much of the season. It's actually been Gray, playing out of position, that is doing the best job of keeping things together.
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
20:15 , Oli Gent13 mins: Another chance! Fati bears down on goal, spinning in behind as Monaco counter from the Spurs corner. He loosk for Akliouche when he should have went himself! What an opportunity!
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
20:13 , Oli GentClose! 11 mins: Balogun with the first half-chance as Vicario does well to limit the angle. Corner, Monaco, but the Spurs keeper claims well.
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
20:12 , Oli Gent8 mins: Both sides will be desperate not to lose this game, but it’s the hosts who have been the most threatening so far. Nothing to worry Spurs yet, however.
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
20:08 , Oli Gent6 mins: Free kick, Monaco. Kudus fouls Henrique in the Spurs half. A chance for the hosts to swing a ball in here...
Monaco 0-0 Tottenham
20:06 , Oli Gent4 mins: Odobert goes down under challenge from Teze, but the referee waves play on.
Matt Verri reports
20:03 , Oli Gent2 mins: Well that's cleared up then - it's Gray at left-back and Van de Ven in the centre of defence. That means it's once again Palhinha and Bentancur in midfield - are we going to see the same creativity issues that have hampered Spurs all season?
Kick off!
20:01 , Oli Gent1 min: We’re underway.
The players are out!
19:56 , Oli GentThe excitement is building, and here comes the anthem...
Ten minutes to kick off!
19:50 , Oli GentA big night on the continent for Spurs. How will they fare?
When they get back, they travel to Everton for a tricky test in the Premier League.
But now though, all focus is on the Champions League.
Also tonight!

You can follow all the updates of that game here!
Spurs sweating over Van de Ven
19:40 , Oli GentTottenham need Micky Van de Ven on his best behaviour tonight, or they could lose their star defender.

Why a Spurs win here could their most important so far
19:30 , Oli GentThis game feels big for Spurs. It’s not quite make or break, but it’s a big one for Thomas Frank.
Simons dropped!
19:20 , Oli GentThat is the headline news from Thomas Frank’s XI, with summer signing Xavi Simons dropping out of the starting lineup after his struggle for form in recent weeks.
The Dutchman has been hit and miss since his arrival from RB Leipzig in the transfer window, and sees Bergvall preferred to him at No10 this evening.
How will Monaco play?
19:15 , Oli GentFrom the looks of that team, Sebastien Pocognoli has set the Ligue 1 side up in a 3-4-2-1 shape.
Former Premier League defenders Thilo Kehrer and Mohammed Salisu, once of West Ham and Southampton respectively, make up two-thirds of the central defensive trio, with natural left-back Caio Henrique completing the three. The Brazilian will have more licence to act like a traditional full-back and support attacks when he can.
Ahead of them, it is a workhorse midfield with Jordan Teze, a natural right-back, slotting into the double pivot, where he has impressed this term. He is alongside Mamadou Coulibaly, and the pair will be sure to get stuck into some tasty challenges.
Out wide, it’s Krepin Diatta and Kassoum Ouattara at wing-back, with two No10s. Maghnes Akliouche, a previous Spurs transfer target, is the danger man, partnered by the former Barcelona and Brighton starlet Ansu Fati.
They line up behind ex-Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun, who leads the line.
Monaco lineup
19:05 , Oli GentConfirmed Monaco XI: Kohn; Kehrer, Salisu, Henrique; Diatta, Teze, Coulibaly, Ouattara; Akliouche, Fati; Balogun.
Subs: Bamba, Biereth, Cabral, Golovin, Idumbo, Ilenikhena, Lienard, Mawissa, Michal, Minamino, Stawiecki.
Let's break down that Spurs XI...
19:01 , Oli GentAs Matt mentions, there are a number of different variations in which Spurs could play today, with one of them being Archie Gray trialled at left-back, with Micky Van de Ven in the middle, or it could also be the Dutchman wide left, with Gray tucked inside and alongside Kevin Danso in the heart of defence.
Otherwise, it is a pretty understandable front four from Thomas Frank, with Lucas Bergvall getting the nod at No10.
Matt Verri reports
18:58 , Oli GentUEFA have it down as a back four for Tottenham with Van de Ven at left-back but there's a few different ways they could line up with that side. Whatever it is, Simons is on the bench after his recent struggles and he can't really complain
Tottenham lineup
18:50 , Oli GentConfirmed Tottenham XI: Vicario; Porro, Danso, Van de Ven, Gray; Palhinha, Bentancur; Kudus, Bergvall, Odobert; Richarlison.
Subs: Kinsky, Austin, Simons, Johnson, Spence, Sarr, Kolo Muani, Scartlett, Olusesi, Byfield, Williams-Barnett.
Crossing the border
18:47 , Oli GentHere are the three players that have played for both sides...
All legends in their own right...
Dier. Berbatov. Adebayor. ✨

What's the story so far?
18:30 , Oli GentFor Spurs, they have one win and one draw from their first two games in the Champions League league phase.
The north Londoners beat Villarreal 1-0 in their opener, before salvaging a last-gasp point at Bodo/Glimt in the Arctic Circle, where they fell 2-0 down in the second half thanks to former AC Milan winger Jens Petter Hauge’s double.
Monaco vs Tottenham head-to-head
18:20 , Oli GentMonaco wins: 2
Tottenham wins: 1
Draws: 1
Standard Sport prediction
18:10 , Oli GentThis one should serve up some goals. Neither team can boast particularly impressive defences - especially with Romero out - but both have plenty to offer in attack.
End-to-end action will be on the menu, with Spurs’ notable away form coming out on top in a tight affair.
Tottenham to win, 2-1.
Tottenham team news
18:00 , Oli GentCristian Romero and Destiny Udogie, who withdrew ahead of the loss to Aston Villa, were both absent from training ahead of the trip and did not join their team-mates on the plane leaving London. Kevin Danso and Djed Spence are expected to deputise again.
Mathys Tel is ineligible, so Richarlison will start as loanee Randal Kolo Muani continues to build up his fitness, with Dominic Solanke still sidelined. Lucas Bergvall and Pape Sarr will be pushing to start, with Xavi Simons' place in doubt.
Monaco team news
17:50 , Oli GentMonaco are juggling many injuries, most notably former Spurs star Eric Dier who misses the game with a hamstring problem. The likes of Vanderson, Denis Zakaria and Christian Mawissa will also miss out. Paul Pogba is still not fit enough to play.
