Monaco beat Lille to consolidate second place in Ligue 1

PARIS (Reuters) - Monaco consolidated second place in Ligue 1 as goals by Rony Lopes and Stevan Jovetic earned them a 2-1 comeback win over struggling Lille on Friday.

The principality side, now unbeaten in their last 15 league games, have 66 points from 30 matches, trailing leaders Paris St Germain by 14 points.

They lead third-placed Olympique de Marseille, who take on fourth-placed Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday, by seven points.

Lille, who opened the scoring in the first half through Lebo Mothiba, are second bottom on 28 points.

The visitors got off to a good start as Mothiba beat Danijel Subasic from close range at the end of a fine team move in the 16th minute.

Monaco increased the pressure and were rewarded one minute before haftime when Lopes struck from Keita Balde's cross for his sixth goal in his last five games.

They went ahead on 61 minutes thanks to Jovetic's eighth goal in 14 Ligue 1 matches since he joined from Inter Milan during the close season.

The Montenegro forward collected Joao Moutinho's through ball before beating Mike Maignan with a delicate chip.
