Momentum review – wooden thriller, Bourne too late

Look, that wig is pointless. You are clearly Olga Kurylenko
Look, that wig is pointless. You are clearly Olga Kurylenko

The curse of Bourne continues to linger over the lower echelons of the film industry with yet another attempt to replicate its success sputtering out of the gate. Olga Kurylenko, who worked well without many words as the nature-loving heroine in Terrence Malick’s To the Wonder, proves a wooden presence as a thief with a mysterious past who finds herself up against James Purefoy’s laughably hammy villain. Somehow, Morgan Freeman’s brief, phoned-in presence as a devious senator isn’t the worst thing on display here. No, that would be the oddly arrogant final scene, which leaves the plot hanging for a sequel that will hopefully never come. It’s too fast-paced to be a total bore, but remains creatively bereft.
