Moments of pride for parents, tears for kids as hundreds of children enter the world of letters

Hundreds of children were initiated into the world of letters at the Vidyarambam ritual on Vijayadashami Day on Tuesday at various places in the district. Temples, media groups, and other institutions, organised the Vidyarambham ceremony.

The Vidyarambham ceremony marks the power of knowledge and Vijayadashami signifies the victory of good over evil. Hundreds of people thronged the Sree Dharmasastha Temple, Thiruvullakkavu, a temple well known for the Vidyarambham ritual.

People reached Thiruvullakkavu early in the morning with children. Long queues were seen at the temple. The temple premises and Saraswathi Mandapam were filled with people.

The Vidyarambham ritual started at 4 a.m. Around 60 Acharayas led by T.V. Sreedharan Warrier of Thiruvullakkavu Warrium, intimated the rituals.

Acharyas wrote the chant of Lord Ganapathy on the tongue of the children and later made the children write the Malayalam alphabets on rice. Special pujas were held in connection with Vijayadashami.

Though the moments were of joy for parents, many children were screaming in panic. Some of them find it a time to play. Parents and Acharayas find it difficult to control naughty children. The temple had made elaborate arrangements for the ritual. Many children attended the Vidyarambham ritual at Sreekrishna Temple, Guruvayur, too.
