Moment yob films himself pushing white van into Scots harbour

A yob has filmed the moment he pushed a van off a pier at a Scots harbour. Cops were called to Cockenzie in East Lothian on the morning of Sunday, April 30, amid reports of a spate of vandalism.

In the clip, which appears to have been captured by the perpetrator himself, the masked man can be seen grabbing the front of the white van and rocking it up and down. The alarm starts to go off before the motor is pushed over the edge.

The crook is then seen running back to the camera and stopping filming. It is believed the person responsible entered the 'unsecured' vehicle before disengaging the handbrake and pushing it off the wall edge, reports Edinburgh Live.

The van was recovered from the harbour by police at around 7.40am. The force have launched a probe into vandalism and break-ins in the East Lothian town, and believe the harbour incident is part of the crimewave.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "An investigation is under way following a spate of vandalisms and break-ins in West Harbour Road, Cockenzie. A number of units were broken into and several cars were vandalised.

"Police were made aware of the incidents around 7.40am on Sunday, April 30. An upturned van was also found in the harbour and officers believe the incidents are linked.

"Relevant CCTV footage is being checked and officers are following a positive line of inquiry. If anyone has any information regarding the incidents, please get in touch with officers, quoting incident number 1004 of April 30, 2023."
