This is the touching moment a white policeman hugged a crying black girl after she asked "are you gonna shoot us?" during a George Floyd protest.

Five-year-old Simone Bartee was with her parents marching in Houston, Texas, when she suddenly burst into tears.

A police officer who was walking by saw the girl in distress and asked her what was wrong.

She asked the officer if he was going to hurt her family, adding: "Are you gonna shoot us?".

He responded by putting his arm around her and then pulling her in for a hug.

He said: "We're here to protect you okay?

Her mother wipes away her daughter's tear as the police officer comforts her (@iamsimoneb)

"We're not here to hurt you at all.

"You can protest, you can party, you can do whatever you want. Just don't break nothing."

The little girl replies with a nod of her head.

The girl's parents, Sion and Simeon, captured the emotional exchange on camera.

They were also moved by their daughter and the officers and could be seen wiping away tears.

The family of three were marching after Mr Floyd, an unarmed black man died after a white officer pinned him to the ground by his neck in Minneapolis on May 25, sparking demonstrations around the world.
