Moment terrified little girl is rescued after being swept out to sea on inflatable in north Wales

A terrified little girl who was swept out to sea on an inflatable raft had to be rescued by a lifeboat in north Wales.

Dramatic footage captured the moment a Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) crew from Rhyl raced to save the terrified child after a rope connecting her to the shore detached and she drifted away.

The RNLI said she had luckily managed to stay on board the inflatable - but was "a few hundred metres out at sea".

The tearful little girl, who can be heard calling out for help, is pulled from her raft and onto the lifeboat before the crew attaches her raft to their own boat.

One crew member can be heard saying "we'll get you back to your parents".

The crew managed to save her just three minutes after the initial call was made at 1.47pm, the RNLI said.

The RNLI said it responded to seven call-outs in total over the Bank Holiday weekend - five on Sunday and a further two on Monday.

"Offshore wind and high tides" caused problems, the RNLI said, with "inflatable toys, boats and balls, being carried out to sea with regularity".

The RNLI released footage of the rescue mission, with permission from the family.

In a statement, it said: "The child was a few hundred metres out at sea, but luckily had stayed on the inflatable.

"The child's family had kept a safety line to the shore, but it became detached from the shore and the dinghy drifted out.

"The crew came alongside and took the child on board with the inflatable, and successfully returned both to the waiting family on the shore, who had been located by Rhyl volunteer coastguard teams who offered safety advice to the family."

The RNLI charity operates more than 200 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland.
