Shocking moment teenage vandal breaks windscreen of police car in London

This is the moment a young thug jumps on the bonnet of a police car and stamps on its windscreen in south London.

The patrol vehicle was attacked in Rookery Road near Clapham Common at around 6.20pm on Saturday.

One teenage boy in a white top, black and orange shorts, white socks and trainers is seen vandalising the car.

A large crowd of about 50 youngsters cheer him on, film the incident on mobile phones and then join in the altercation.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “The car was so badly damaged, with the windscreen smashed after somebody jumped on the bonnet and kicked the glass, that it cannot be used.

“Thankfully, no officers were injured and the group were dispersed at approximately 8.15pm.”

Inspector Darren Watson, from the local neighbourhood policing team, added: “One of our marked police vehicles, a vital asset in responding and protecting our community, was deliberately damaged.

“This has rendered the vehicle completely unusable and means there is one less police car available to respond to calls for help.

“Those responsible have shown a complete disregard for the local community.

“If you have any information regarding this incident or the identity of those responsible, I urge you to come forward. The information could be the crucial piece of the investigation that helps us identify the suspect and bring them to justice.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police via 101, quoting reference 01/7614619/25, or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
