Moment police point Taser at man carrying EIGHT knives in Manchester Piccadilly

A man was arrested at Piccadilly station and found to be carrying eight knives, police have said.

The dramatic incident happened when the station was largely closed in the early hours of the morning.

A member of rail staff reported seeing a man armed with a knife in the station.

An image of the incident sent to the Manchester Evening News shows officers pointing a Taser at a man who has his hands in the air with a number of bags beside him.

British Transport Police confirmed a Taser was drawn but not fired.

A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a bladed article.

The incident happened when Piccadilly was largely empty last night (MEN)

In total, eight knives were found in his possession.

The man remains in custody for questioning.

British Transport Police said in a statement: "BTP were called to Manchester Piccadilly station at 01.19am this morning after a member of rail staff reported seeing a man with a knife.

"Officers quickly attended and a 38-year-old man was searched. He was found with eight knives in his possession and arrested on suspicion of possessing a bladed article.

"A taser was drawn and red dotted during the incident.

"The man was taken into police custody where he remains this morning. Enquiries are ongoing."
