Moment lorry driver hurls racist abuse at a courier in middle of a busy road

This is the shocking moment a lorry driver hurls racist abuse at a courier near the Manchester city centre.

A BCD Logistics lorry driver and DPD delivery man were seen arguing in the road on Friday evening when a passing motorist started filming, Manchester Evening News reports.

The Black DPD driver is heard saying "f***ing idiot".

In the next scene, a man in an orange, high-visibility jacket, understood to have been staffing the lorry, can be heard shouting the word 'bl***ie' at the DPD driver.

The DPD driver then runs over to the man in orange, shouting: "What did you say?"

The lorry driver replies: "You called me an idiot."

The DPD driver then responds: "Say it again, say it again."

A scuffle then ensues between the driver and courier.

The lorry driver appears to grab the DPD worker and shout "you're being done for assault".

Meanwhile, the DPD driver continues to reply "say it again, say it again".

A third man is then seen trying to intervene, to calm the situation down before the DPD driver returns to his van.

BCD logistics, a container freight transport company based in Trafford Park, say they are aware of the video and the staff member has been suspended.

National Transport Manager Jim Baker told Manchester Evening News: "We are appalled at the video. I am shocked and disgusted. Our company has a zero-tolerance policy on this behaviour and the staff member was suspended immediately.

"We opened a full investigation, which will be carried out. Disciplinary procedures will begin once we have the results of the investigation.

"We have already been in touch with the company the gentleman works for, DPD. We have been fully transparent with them and we are doing our utmost to get this sorted as quickly as possible.

"We are not hiding behind anything. It's out there in the open and we're going to deal with it very strongly."

A DPD spokesperson said: "We do not tolerate our drivers being abused for any reason.

"We have investigated this incident, spoken to our driver, liaised with the third party’s employer and between us reached an amicable agreement.

"We are content that this matter is now resolved.”

The internal investigation at BCD Logistics is said to be ongoing.
