Moment lorry blew over in Storm Ciara winds on Severn Bridge

Footage has captured the moment a lorry was blown over on the Severn Bridge.

The vehicle crashed just before 12pm on Monday, February 10 and wasn't recovered until 32 hours later.

The video shows the lorry falling over onto its left side, crashing into the barriers.

The lorry driver was treated at the scene and then taken to hospital.

Engineers struggled to recover the lorry as they waited for high winds to fall. The bridge was therefore closed for most of Monday and much of yesterday (February 11).

Recovery was finally able to take place just after 8pm on Tuesday.

A witness described the scene on the bridge after the crash to Wales Online.

"It just went, so I stopped and ran over to help the driver," said David, from Caerphilly.

"I held him up until another motorist who was a doctor arrived on the scene and the emergency services. It looked like he has a broken nose and a cut to his head.

"The driver was totally shocked. He said 'I don't know what happened' and then was concerned that others might have been injured.

"We told him no-one else was injured and waited with him until the emergency services arrived at the scene.

"It was extremely windy on the bridge, the lorry was sheltering us but we could hardly stand up in the wind when I went to get back to my car.

"I had to be escorted off the bridge because the winds were over 50mph.
