Moment London shopkeeper armed with shovel bravely takes on thug who ‘doused shop with petrol and shouted 'I’ll set you on fire'

Video footage captures the shocking moment a London shopkeeper armed with a shovel apparently takes on a thug who allegedly douses the shop in petrol and tries to steal from the cash register.

CCTV footage, which has been shared widely on social media, is said to show a hooded man enter the shop in Wembley, northwest London, and approach the counter.

He can be heard greeting the shopkeeper as he enters the store, before threatening to set him on fire unless he hands over money in the cash register.

“Give me all the money now, give me all the money or I set you on fire,” he appears to say.

Alarmed, the shopkeeper jumps back as the man then appears to douse a liquid, presumed to be petrol, over the counter.

The shopkeeper then runs to the back room of the store to grab a shovel before confronting the man.

A struggle then breaks out as the shopkeeper chases the hooded man with the gardening equipment, while he tries to rip the cash register from the counter.

The pair can be seen crashing into shelves of food and goods, while the hooded man screams as he is struck.

During the almost three minute exchange, the thug could be heard saying: “Get the f*** off me now.”

The shopkeeper then tries to restrain him before another man in a blue shirt steps in to help hold him.

The incident is believed to have taken place at around 8.45am last Sunday.

Reacting to the footage on social media, one person compared the video to something out of a film.

They wrote: “Tbh this was just like watching a film! Well done to the shopkeeper for standing his ground!”

The Metropolitan Police have been contacted in relation to the incident.
