Moment Local Hero plays at St James' Park as Wor Flags prepare for Newcastle return

There wasn't a dry eye in St James' Park on Wednesday evening as Wor Flags were serenaded by Local Hero during their practice return run for Sunday.

All this week, the supporters' group have been up at the ground preparing for their pre-kickoff display for the clash against Tottenham - something the new Newcastle United owners are understood to be looking forward to.

As members of Wor Flags were testing out the flags which fly on Sunday, Mark Knopfler's Local Hero was played over the tannoy, and the moment was captured on video.

The group posted it to their Twitter account and more than 150,000 people have seen the video, with many who did admit it left them feeling quite emotional.

Sunday will see a new flag on display - Chronicle Live has seen the designs, and it's going to be a very special day.

It's a big moment for Wor Flags as it is their first game as a group since the 3-2 defeat to Liverpool in May 2019.

They refused to return for the following two seasons, vowing not to hold another display until Mike Ashley sold the club.

With the Saudi-backed consortium now in charge, the group were eager to return and with help from those inside the club have been allowed inside St James' Park to prep.
