Moment Lewis Capaldi trolls crowd at The 1975 gig by pretending to be Harry Styles

Lewis Capaldi stunned fans by taking to the stage last night at The 1975's gig in Newcastle where he trolled fans by teasing a Harry Styles appearance.

The West Lothian star took to the stage on Wednesday night after huge signs in the arena displayed "Guest starring... Harry Styles" as the crowd erupted into loud cheers. After introducing the One Direction star, Lewis, 26, took to the stage and he hugged band members on the way.

Addressing the crowd, Lewis - who performed in Glasgow on Tuesday night to a sold-out OVO Hydro - joked: "My name is Harry Styles it's good to be here. I know what you're thinking 'He looks different, and he sounds different' but make no mistake I am Harry Styles."

This comes after The 1975 previously announced they had approached the Watermelon Sugar star for the guest slot during their second night at London's 02 Arena, but he declined.

Capaldi joins the likes of Taylor Swift, Charlie XCX, and Phoebe Bridgers who have all joined the group on their 'At Their Very Best' tour.

Fans went absolutely wild for the crossover, and took to social media to share clips from the unexpected performance. The cheeky crooner played two songs covering Love Story by Taylor Swift and The 1975's own hit Antichrist from their 2013 self titled album.

Taking to Twitter after the gig, fans discussed Lewis' hilarious joke as he fooled the audience thinking the 'As It Was' hitmaker was joining them on stage.

Alongside a clown emoji, one wrote: "The 1975 and Lewis Capaldi made fans believe that Harry was the special guest at the The 1975 concert tonight in Newcastle by writing his name on the screens before Lewis arrived".

"LEWIS CAPALDI COVERED ANTICHRIST AT THE 1975 what This whole tour has just been unreal wtf," penned another.

Another fan agreed: "Lewis Capaldi was at the 1975 concert, got announced as Harry Styles and then sang A Taylor song? Absolut legend"

A fan tweeted: "Lewis capaldi being a guest at the 1975 show, introducing himself as Harry styles, and covering love story by Taylor swift," while someone else echoed: "LEWIS CAPALDI COVERED ANTICHRIST AT A THE 1975 SHOW??? HE SANG IT SO PERFECTLY OH MY GOD IM GONNA CRY I LOVE THAT SONG SO MUCH".

The Scots singer wasn't the only special guest who took to the stage last night as frontman Matty Healy's dad, Benidorm star Tim Healy, also performed in Newcastle. Tim stunned fans with his great rendition of The 1975 track All I Need To Hear.

Proud son Matty paid tribute to his father dubbing him the "king of Newcastle" and, later on, an immensely proud Matty said he owed him everything.
