A jealous boyfriend cried to police after searching "best way to get revenge on a woman" and stabbing his partner more than 50 times.
Ian Bennett, of Solihull, is seen weeping in body camera footage as he lied to officers claiming that he simply "walked into" a horrific murder scene when he went to check on his girlfriend Kerry Woolley.
The 38-year-old had dialled 999 claiming he found Ms Woolley with catastrophic wounds to her neck at her flat in Olton, reports Birmingham Live.
He was seen calmly strolling across a street carrying a bundle in his hand after killing the mum-of-two over groundless accusations of cheating last July.
Bennett's mum Lynda, 63, was jailed for trying to cover up the murder after she was caught on CCTV driving him to a canal bridge where he dumped the bag, containing a large knife with a bent blade.
Dashcam footage from her vehicle revealed Bennett throwing the bag into the water.
In footage from his arrest, Bennet told officers: "We was having a few drinks, I left here at 1am. I've been trying to ring her and text her all day, no answers.
"The door wasn't open. I had to pull the handle, then I walked into that."
On Thursday, police released bodycam footage which showed the killer calling his mum to the scene, sniffing and crying while holding a cigarette.
Bennett was arrested on suspicion of murder before the weapon was uncovered.
Detectives looked at messages sent between the couple who first met just weeks before the killing.
The texts suggested the pair had fallen out days before the attack.
Bennett accused Ms Woolley of cheating on him, despite having no proof, and that she was messaging her ex.
Police said his search history revealed how he looked for "the best way to get revenge on a woman."
Mobile phone data showed that the couple's phones went silent on July 11 at around 11.30pm when Ms Woolley would usually be using her phone regularly.
Bennett's phone did not become active again until almost 4am the following day when he tried to contact her and continued to do so throughout the day despite knowing she was dead.
Dashcam footage from his mother's car showed that the vehicle had left the address where he lived with his parents on a 40 minute journey in Solihull.
Cell site data retrieved from his mum's phone suggested she was the driver.
The car first stopped by the canal where Bennett was seen throwing the bundle into the canal and then pulled up near shops where he carried a plastic bag into nearby parkland.
Detectives uncovered the bag which contained blood-stained women's jogging bottoms and a pair of oven gloves.
Forensics matched Ms Woolley's DNA to both the knife and the clothing and a post mortem revealed that she had suffered more than 50 knife wounds, mostly on her neck.
Two knives had been used, one with a serrated blade and the second with a smooth blade which was retrieved from the canal.
Bennett was found guilty of murder at Birmingham Crown Court and sentenced to life with a minimum term of 25 years.
He denied murder while his mother Lynda denied assisting an offender and perverting the courts of justice.
