Moment Jose Mourinho changed his mind about Liverpool because of Jurgen Klopp

Over the years Jose Mourinho hasn't had the best relationship with Liverpool.

He was Chelsea boss when Steven Gerrard's infamous slip against the Blues led to Manchester City beating Liverpool to a first Premier League title.

He then went on to manage the Reds' bitter rivals, Manchester United.

Mourinho doesn't throw praise about too willingly either, but, perhaps surprisingly, he did exactly this last season when talking about Liverpool.

And the catalyst for the Portuguese seemingly having a change of heart; the man responsible for him heaping praise on Liverpool, was Jurgen Klopp.

The German won the Champions League with the Reds last season, but victory in the final wasn't his side's best performance nor result.

Liverpool - kind of like Mourinho's Inter Milan in 2010 - in some ways won the competition in the semi-final, with their victory over Barcelona.

The Catalan giants led Liverpool by three goals to nil from the first leg, only for Klopp's men to somehow turn the tie around back at Anfield.

Mourinho was out of work at the time and passionately provided his thoughts on the comeback on Sky Sports.

"For me, this [comeback] has one name - Jurgen. This is about him," he said.

"This is a reflection of his personality don't give up his fighting spirit, every player giving everything. He's not crying because he's missing [injured] players, he's not crying because they're playing 50 or 60 matches a season.

"Today is about Jurgen's mentality.

"This is not about tactics, not about philosophy. This is about heart and soul and fantastic empathy he has created with that group of players."

This season Mourinho is back in work as Tottenham boss, but it seems his admiration for Klopp's Liverpool has not wavered.

Mourinho was in charge as Spurs got one over Manchester City in February, and had no qualms pointing out that they were, undoubtedly, going to win a first Premier League title this season.

"Obviously, against the champions, still the champions," he said, of Man City. "A fantastic team, even if they are going to lose the title."
