Moment Jaguar bursts into flames in Thornhill, Cardiff

This is the frightening moment a car burst into flames on a busy road in Cardiff.

The Jaguar caught fire on the A469 in Thornhill Road, Thornhill, Cardiff, at around 10.45am on September 8.

As flames engulfed the sports car, onlookers in nearby homes and a mini-supermarket looked on in shock.

An eyewitness said: "I was in the house and something glowing outside caught my eye. When I looked properly I could see a car was totally on fire. It looked liked there was a small explosion.

"We had to keep the windows and doors shut as the smoke was so thick.

"It's pretty scary when something like that happens on your doorstep, but fair play to the firefighters - they got everything under control."

Firefighters were at the scene for 45 minutes before heading back to base.

It is believed no-one was hurt in the incident, although the sports car was a total write off.

For hours afterwards, traffic on the stretch of the road - inbetween the Sainsburys Local and Thornhill Crematorium - was delayed.

A spokeswoman for South Wales Fire & Rescue Service said: "At approximately 10.45am on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, we received reports of a vehicle fire on Thornhill Road.

"Crews from Caerphilly station attended the scene and extinguished the fire.

"The incident concluded at approximately 11.27am."
