Pancho the police dog managed to stop a suspect from evading arrest
(Picture: YouTube/West Midlands Police)A 25-year-old man was attempting to evade arrest from police on Sunday - but Pancho the police dog wasn’t going to let the suspect get away so easily.
After failing to stop for a traffic patrol unit, the man was pursued by police for ten minutes as he drove the wrong way down one-way streets and jumped red lights.
Eventually the car ground to a halt when police “stung” its tyres.
At 1am, PD Pancho and handler PC Dan Benton were called to Gracewell Road, Birmingham, after a man bolted from the car.
West Midlands Police has released a clip showing the thermal imaging camera from a police helicopter picking up the moment Pancho was able to chase down the man in the pitch black while he attempted to flee the scene.
The two-year-old Belgian Malinois was no match for the suspect and easily managed to stop him in his tracks.
Pancho’s handler, PC Dan Benton, said: “It was pitch black and there were loads of bushes for the suspect to hide in, but that didn’t stop Pancho. She was straight on the scent and managed to quickly detain the man.”
Police said a 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and driving under the influence of drugs.
Since sharing the incredible clip across social media, it has received hundreds of likes and people have praised Pancho for her hard work.

Pancho is poignantly named after one of the force’s former detectives, DC Andrew Taylor, who sadly passed away in 2018. He was known as Pancho to his colleagues in West Midlands Police.
We definitely think Pancho deserves a few doggy treats after her hard work!
