Moment Glasgow man proposes at busy Central Station caught on BBC cameras

A young couple’s emotional marriage proposal in the middle of the city’s Central Station during rush hour is set to be shown on TV this Sunday.

Hit BBC Scotland series Inside Central Station (9pm, Sunday 14 November) followed every second of James Fennah’s surprise proposal to girlfriend Hannah Fairlie after the pair travelled to Glasgow following a trip away to Manchester.

Viewers will see the special moment when James asks oblivious Hannah to look at the station’s information board, which has been altered to display the words: “Hannah Jane Fairlie, Will You Marry Me?”

He then gets down on one knee and pulls out a ring as a gobsmacked Hannah shakes her head in disbelief.

James had worked with the show’s producers from STV Studios to arrange the big surprise, which also included having members of Hannah’s family watching the proposal unfold from a secret room within the station.

After Hannah takes a moment to process the situation before saying “yes” to her husband-to-be, James jokes: “You left me down on one knee for a while!”

Inside Central Station has returned to screens for a third series on BBC Scotland, with Homes Under the Hammer’s Martel Maxwell joining as narrator. The series, which follows the interesting characters who work and travel through one of Britain’s busiest train stations, has proven to be one of the channel’s most popular series since it first aired in 2019.

Rosy Marshall-McCrae, executive producer of Inside Central Station, said: “As we see with each series, the Central Station foyer has been the scene of countless heart warming moments over the years, but James’ proposal has to be up there as one of the sweetest.

“When he told us what he was planning to do, we knew that it would make for an extremely special TV moment. I’m delighted that Inside Central Station viewers will get to join in the celebrations on Sunday night, and we wish James and Hannah every happiness in their married lives together!”

Please include: Inside Central Stations airs on BBC Scotland and BBC iPlayer on Sundays at 9pm.

Inside Central Station is produced by STV Studios for BBC Scotland.
