Moment fire raged on Salford street caught on camera

By Ramazani Mwamba

This is the moment Salford residents were woken by a ‘frightening’ and explosive blaze coming from a skip. Fire crews were called to Annie Street in Weaste at around 12.30am on Wednesday to reports of a fire involving a skip.

One person said they could hear ‘explosions’ and found the fire ‘full development’ before calling emergency services.

They said: "I could hear explosions and when I reached the top of the road. I didn't see anyone else at this stage and called the fire brigade, then neighbours started to come out.

“Two vehicles arrived with two minutes and they were on the road for around 45 minutes. I think they initially cut off the gas supply as they went straight to beneath the pavement while the rest of them tackled the blaze.

"It was frightening because we had so many cars in close proximity but thankfully everyone is okay. We're all very great to the fire brigade for coming so quickly."

No injuries have been reported.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 12:30am this morning (Wednesday 11 May) we were called to reports of a fire involving a skip on Annie Street, Salford, located close to nearby houses.

“Two fire engines from Salford fire station were quickly in attendance, and firefighters used one hose reel and a jet to bring the fire under control and prevent any further spread. Crews were at the scene for around half an hour.”
