Moment Dundee horse rider captures frightening ordeal with van driver on camera

A horse rider has described her near miss with a delivery driver on a country road near Dundee.

Joanna Taylor was riding her horse Blondie on Tuesday afternoon when the horror incident happened.

She was with a friend at the time and filmed the argument with the driver after the close call near her family’s yard, at Tealing.

The clip shows the van driver arguing with 24-year-old carer Joanna on the narrow road.

He claims he was going within the speed limit, while Joanna reminds him he should slow down near horses.

Joanna posted the footage on her Facebook page asking her friends to “please share to spread awareness.”

The post said: “We’re lucky that at our yard we only have to go on the roads for about 2 minutes during a hack.

“Sometimes that’s still 2 minutes too much though.”

She added: “When I waved my arm for him to slow down, he stopped his van, shouting and swearing at us saying that he was going the national speed limit.

“It is absolutely NEVER acceptable to pass horses on the road at that speed!

“Please if you are driving past horses, slow right down, it only adds about 10 seconds on to your journey and could save a life.

“Clare and I are so lucky our horses are so well behaved because this could have ended very differently! So dangerous!”

In a simlar incident in September, we told how a horse died following a horror crash on a rural Scots road after it became spooked by a revving overtaking vehicle.

The horse and its rider were travelling on the unnamed road to Armadale from the B8028 at Avonbridge yesterday evening at about 5.15pm.

It is believed that the animal was startled by an overtaking vehicle, which loudly revved its engine.

The frightened horse was then involved in a crash with a blue Land Rover.

It was so badly injured that it had to be euthanised.

Dundee Live contacted KPD delivery services this morning and a spokesman confirmed the driver had been suspended pending a full investigation.

Police Scotland has also been contacted for comment.
