Moment driver jumps red light and nearly hits family in dramatic near-miss

This is the moment a family with a pushchair were nearly hit by a driver who jumped a red light in a dramatic near-miss.

Police footage shows the terrifying moment a silver car drove towards the family as they crossed the road in Phoenix, Arizona.

The family were only saved when another vehicle, a Chevrolet Cruze, slammed into the car while crossing the junction from a different direction.

The red-light runner was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The Chevy Cruz driver was unharmed, police said.

The City of Phoenix Police Department shared the footage on Twitter. In the video, the couple can be seen fleeing across the road after the huge collision.

Officers wrote: "An angel in the form of a Chevy Cruz may have saved the lives of a couple pushing a stroller through a Phoenix crosswalk at 53rd & Indian School.

"The innocent driver will be OK. The re-light runner was arrested for DUI."
