Moment derelict Speedwell Swimming Pool pulled down to make room for affordable homes

Footage shows the dramatic moment a historic swimming pool in Bristol was demolished.

Developers plan to build 31 affordable homes across a five-storey complex on the Speedwell site,

Property developer Crossman Homes signed a deal with housing provider Yarlington after receiving funding from  Bristol City Council  to build the apartments on Whitefield Road.

The  development is being designed by Bristol-based Angus Meek Architects and will be a mixture of one and two-bedroom  apartments .

After first opening in 1937, Speedwell Baths was closed in 2005 by Bristol City Council - and has lain disused for years. Since its closure, the building has become a breeding ground for anti-social behaviour.

Brad Hughes of Crossman Homes previously told Bristol Live : "We are delighted to be leading this exciting development which will provide much-needed social housing for the area.

"The site has been vacant since 2005 and has become a dangerous eyesore, attracting  anti-social behaviour which has been a real concern to the local community."
