Moment customers 'sneak out back door without paying' after racking up £273 pub bill

This is the moment a group of diners sneaked out of a pub by the back door after failing to pay a £273 bill.

The Sutton Arms, in Stokesley, North Yorkshire, has shamed the party by sharing CCTV footage of their departure on Facebook.

The customers feasted on steak and lobsters and guzzled more than £70 of drinks before fleeing the family run pub.

The boozer previously warned the diners to return and pay up or it would share the footage on social media.

This morning, the pub followed through on its threat and posted the CCTV footage on Facebook.

In the post, the pub said: "It's come to our attention that other people with the same surname are getting the blame for this which is very unfair!

"Below is the footage of the party leaving, the rest of the CCTV and stills will be passed onto the police Monday if payment has still not been received!

"As we've said maybe a genuine mistake, some of the party went to the toilets then one of the party seemed to get a very important phone call she ran outside to take maybe forgetting to come back and pay!

"Hopefully this matter will be resolved and I'm sorry to other people with the same name who's being accused!

"Thanks everyone for all the message of support and help, very much appreciated!"

In its previous post, the pub suggested that there may have been some confusion over who paid.

However it said if the bill wasn’t settled, they would be forced to involve the police and post the footage of them online.

The pub posted: “Please could the table of 6 FINNEY come back to pay their bill after you left last night without paying!!

“I'm guessing there must of been a bit of confusion when leaving thinking another member of party had already paid the bill!

"We have tried to message you on social media but had no reply!

“Please could you pay the bill this evening or even post the money through the letter box! Otherwise we will have to share the CCTV footage with the police and on social media

“We are a small family run pub trying out hardest in these tough times for hospitality. Mistakes happen so hopefully this can be sorted before we have to take it further! Please share this post.”

The party of six dined out that evening, ordering some of the most expensive items on the menu.

Three of them had the eight ounce fillet steak, at £24 a head, whilst the other three went for the lavish eight ounce fillet steak served with half a lobster, at £32 each.

The family business, like countless across the country and beyond, are facing down the cost of living crisis.
