Moment crew tell Düsseldorf flight they'd landed in Edinburgh by mistake instead

Passengers on a flight bound for Germany that landed in Scotland by mistake can be heard laughing in disbelief as the situation dawns on a baffled airline crew member.

The flight destined for Düsseldorf in Germany had accidentally landed in Edinburgh instead yesterday morning.

Footage following the landing shows passengers realising the error when the "welcome to Edinburgh" announcement is made, the Daily Record reports .

They take it in good humour, tittering in surprise as the crew-member asks the packed plane over the flight's speaker system: "No one to Edinburgh? No one to Edinburgh?"

"Holey smoley," he starts.

Ryanair's cheeky jibe at BA flight landing in wrong country massively backfires

"No one to Edinburgh? No one to Edinburgh?"

The passengers shout back "no" and he answers: "Ok. Please don't make photos or videos."

"The embarassment... they've taken us to the wrong place," one passenger can be heard saying.

"Oh my god," another passenger titters under their breath.

A second video shows the crew-member telling passengers they would be returning to Düsseldorf, adding the flight time would be 1hr 28min.

He adds: "We apologise about that.

"We don't know where.....where the problem is but we do the best to bring you as soon as possible to..."

British Airways launches Avios deal with double the points on flight bookings

The passengers laugh again as the crew-member pauses again as if checking his notes: "Dusseldorf. Sorry."

It is understood the mistake was made after the flight paperwork was submitted incorrectly on Monday.

The plane, which started at London's City Airport, was later redirected and landed in Düsseldorf.

WDL Aviation ran the British Airways flight through a leasing deal, it is understood.

In a statement yesterday, BA said: "We are working with WDL Aviation, who operated this flight on behalf of British Airways, to establish why the incorrect flight plan was filed.

"We have apologised to customers for this interruption to their journey and will be contacting them all individually."
