Moment car crashes into boulders during high speed garda chase in Ballymun, north Dublin

This is the bizarre moment that a car crashed after apparently being chased by gardai in Dublin.

The chase is believed to have started at Northside Shopping Centre but ended when the vehicle was left mounted on boulders that it had smashed into at Silloge Park, Ballymun at around 9.15pm.

Dublin Live understands that the car had been followed by four armed cars and two unmarked cars during the chase.

The video shows a car speeding around a corner and over a speed bump while being followed in close pursuit by an unmarked car with its siren on.

Seconds later, the car hammers into a set of boulders which raises the front of the car.

The unmarked car slowly drives up behind the vehicle and blocks it in while turning off the sirens.

One eye-witness said: "I was on the scene for the very end of the crash. The people driving got stuck on the boulders and Gardai swarmed in after.

"It's gotten way out of hand in the area. We're talking probably 20 teenagers joyriding and leading Gardai on chases every night of the week.

"The community would like to try and get this highlighted so we can pull together and fix this."

Dublin Live has contacted both the Garda Ombudsman and Press Office about the incident.

While the Garda Ombudsman had no record of the incident, they said: "An Garda Síochána are not obliged to make a referral to GSOC unless the incident results in death or serious harm."
