Moment brazen thief snatches £1m painting in front of gallery visitors

The man wanders off with the artwork

This is the moment a brazen thief snatched a £1 million oil painting in front of art gallery visitors.

Security video shows a man posing as a gallery worker calmly removing Arkhip Kuindzhi’s Crimean mountain scene from a wall of the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow yesterday.

A police source said: “Witnesses confirmed that when the painting was being removed from the wall, the alarm did not work.

The criminal was seen by a gallery keeper but she did not do anything to stop him.”

The painting appeared to have been insured for £150,000, but experts said it could have fetched £1 million.
