Moment Audi driver in high-speed chase jumped out of car seconds before it crashed into house

A dangerous driver on drugs who led police on a high-speed pursuit is behind bars.

Video footage captures Jonathon Kitchen's appalling driving.

At one point he more than doubles the 40mph speed limit and weaves the Audi onto the wrong side of roads.

Footage of the pursuit last year, recorded on the dashcam of the police vehicle following, has been released as Kitchen begins a prison sentence.

The calmness and professionalism of the officer on board giving a running commentary shines through.

"We're now 50mph in a 30mph - wrong side of a keep left sign," he says.

"Speed's increased to 85mph in a 40."

The pursuit comes to an end when Kitchen, realising he has nowhere to go, jumps from the moving Audi and falls across the floor.

The car goes on to hit a house.

Kitchen, 22, from Rosemary Crescent, Wigan, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while under the influence of drugs and driving without insurance.

At Preston Crown Court on Tuesday, he was jailed by a judge for eight months.

Kitchen also received a 16-month driving ban.

Officers from Lancashire Police's tactical operations division spotted Kitchen in the Audi in Chorley, Lancashire, on June 19 last year.

The car was uninsured and Kitchen didn't stop for officers.

The pursuit played out from around 2.15am.

The footage shows Kitchen weaving across roads at speed.

At one point he drives to the wrong side of a 'keep left' bollard at 50mph in a 30mph zone.

He then reaches 85mph in a 40mph zone but luckily, no other traffic is on the roads.

At one stage, the pursuing police vehicle pulls up alongside the Audi to guide it into driving to the correct side of a roundabout.

Then, on Cotswold Avenue, Kitchen jumps out of the moving car and falls out onto the road.

The car goes on to plough into a house.

Lancashire Police said Kitchen ran away but was arrested after being tracked by a police helicopter and a police dog close.

He was held close to Euxton Cricket Club.

The video was tweeted by Lancashire Police's road policing unit.

The force said: "Jonathon Kitchen, 22, of Rosemary Crescent, Wigan, was jailed for eight months at Preston Crown Court on Tuesday, March 30.

"He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while under the influence of drugs and driving without insurance.

"He also received a 16-month driving ban.

"He made off from the vehicle and was arrested after being tracked by a police helicopter and police dog near Euxton Cricket Club."
