Moment armed police storm north Manchester street after man 'shot with pellet gun'

Neighbours have described the dramatic moment armed police stormed a north Manchester street after a man was shot with a pellet gun during a 'dispute'.

A man in his 50s was taken to hospital with a head injury after the incident in New Moston on Friday morning.

Pictures from the scene show officers with their guns drawn in the garden of a house on Avonbrook Drive at about 8.30am.

One witness told the Manchester Evening News he later saw a man stood in the street in his boxer shorts with his face 'covered in blood'.

Another neighbour said: "I looked out of the window and there were police everywhere.

"The helicopter was flying above. There were six BMW X5s, all armed police.

"They have gone in through the back with their guns drawn. They came round and told everyone to stay inside."

This morning the house was cordoned off and a ground floor rear window appeared to have been smashed.

Police say the man was shot to the body with the pellet gun following a bust-up between four men.

He was taken to hospital with a head injury and minor injuries to the body. His condition is described as stable.

A GMP statement added: "This is believed to an isolated incident with no risk to the wider public and a scene is currently in place.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."

An North West Ambulance Service spokesman said crews were called to Avonbrook Drive at 8.36am.

"We attended with an ambulance and a rapid response vehicle," he added.

"We’ve taken one patient to hospital."
