Moment armed police storm Leeds Crowne Plaza hotel 'looking for man with gun'

This is the moment armed police entered a four-star hotel at a hotel in Leeds city centre to carry out a raid in their search for a suspected gunman.

Officers from West Yorkshire Police arrived at Crowne Plaza Leeds, in Wellington Street, at around 6.30am on Thursday, March 5.

They arrested a man, in his 40s, on suspicion of firearm offences and then conducted a thorough search of his room.

A police spokesman said: "Shortly before 6.30am this morning armed officers carried out a planned operation at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, in Wellington Street, and arrested a man on suspicion of firearms offences.

"The man, aged in his 40s, has been taken into custody."

In the video above, at least ten specially trained officers enter the four star hotel as shocked drivers and residents look on.

This footage was filmed by a passerby who was surprised to see the number of officers entering the hotel, which has a good reputation in the city. His shock can be heard in the video.

The hotel remains open and the owners have been contacted for a comment.
