Moment armed gardai seize fake gun after removing youngster from Luas

Armed gardai intercepted a Luas after receiving a report that a youth on board had a gun.

A number of youths were removed from the Red Line in Drimnagh tonight after armed members of the force entered the tram and took them off.

Confused passengers were held on a tram this evening as gardai entered before shouting "get on the ground" at a person on board.

Incredible footgage shows armed gardai standing over one of the youths as he lays on his belly at the stop.

Shouting can be heard while what appears to be an imitation firearm can be seen at his left foot.

One of the officers then removes it and the boy is picked up and spoken to.

Around seven gardai stormed the tram and a group were removed.

One witness told Dublin Live the scene was "like something out of a movie" and that officers were "very wary" for the safety of others on board.

She said:"It was like something out of a movie. Just a lot of shouting to get on the ground , the gardai were very wary of us on board and blocked the doors."

A family member of the boy described what he did as "very stupid" and said no one on board other than him knew the gun wasn't real.

She said: "The guards done their job and done it well and we as a family can only apologise for any upset."

A garda spokesperson confirmed the incident saying they received a report that a youth was carrying a gun.

She said "A number of youths were travelling on the Luas when it was alleged that one youth was carrying a firearm.

"Gardai stopped the Luas at approximately 7.45 p.m. and a number of youths were removed from the Luas.

"There was no firearm and investigations are ongoing."
