Moment 94-year-old man thrown in air after being struck by bike as teen detained

This is the harrowing moment a 94-year-old was run over by a bike and thrown into the air. Bradley Taylor from Llanelli hit the elderly man with his off-road bike on January 6 this year.

The footage captured on CCTV shows 18-year-old Taylor riding up and down the streets, including on the wrong side of the road, before racing down the town's High Street and crashing into the 94-year-old as he attempted to cross the road to visit a friend and neighbour, reports Wales Online.

The clip shows the man being hit by the bike, hurling him upwards before he lands on the ground near a parked vehicle. The old man was left lying on the concrete as Taylor got to his feet and fled the scene on his bike.

The teen was said to have made no attempts to aid the elderly man, who was taken to hospital with injuries including a broken cheekbone, a broken collarbone and a broken rib.

At Swansea Crown Court this month Taylor pled guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving with no insurance, failing to stop after an accident and failing to report an accident.

The victim did not attend court but prosecution barrister David Singh told the Judge: “He has no recollection of the incident. He recalls waking up in Morriston Hospital.

"He loved swimming and keeping fit, walking into the town centre and gardening. He also enjoyed dancing. He described his life as very active.

"Since the collision he feels he can no longer do these things. He says he struggles to walk. He believes the collision has had an impact on his memory and his brain.”

Taylor was given 12 months detention in a young offender institution and banned from driving for three and a half years.
