Mom suspected in deaths of 2 daughters had left suicide note in house, police say

LOS ANGELES _ A mother found unresponsive in an Ontario home where the bodies of her two daughters were discovered Tuesday has been named as a suspect in their deaths, police said Wednesday.

Investigators launched a homicide investigation after a teenage girl and her infant sister were found dead in their home. Officers responded to the home about 4 p.m. after they received a call from the children's father who had found them in the garage, Ontario Police Sgt. Bill Russell said.

Russell said officers immediately began performing CPR on the siblings when they were found, but they could not be revived. Their mother was found unresponsive and was taken to a hospital, where she is in stable condition, he said. Neither the sisters nor their mother was identified.

Russell said investigators found a suicide note written by the mother inside the house that indicated she planned to kill her children before taking her own life. The woman has battled depression, he said.

"There's strong evidence leading us to believe she's the only person who acted in this case," Russell said. "It's a horrible tragedy."

It is not clear how the children were killed, but Russell said there was evidence that a struggle occurred in the house.
