Mom charged in death of little girl found in apartment trash bin

MIAMI _ Police arrested a Miami-Dade woman on allegations she murdered her 4-year-old daughter who was found in a garbage bin over the weekend.

Tina Farrington, 31, was booked into a Miami-Dade jail on first-degree murder and domestic violence charges early Monday.

The body of Tania Paige, who was 4, was found by a man Sunday afternoon as he threw out his garbage at a Southwest Miami-Dade apartment complex.

The man called 911 to report the body, which was found at Tuscany Place, at Southwest 254th Street and 137th Avenue. The bin, which was in the same complex where Tania and her mother lived, was towed away by police.

"Anything involving a child is always going to be difficult," said Miami-Dade police spokesman Argemis Colome. "This hits everybody."

Police have not released details on what led detectives to Farrington. An autopsy is being conducted to determine Tania's cause of death.
