Molotov cocktail thrown at Lleyton Hewitt's former mansion

A police car at the West Lakes house hit by a molotov cocktail.

Police are investigating why a molotov cocktail was thrown at an Adelaide mansion famously once owned by tennis star Lleyton Hewitt.

Police and Metropolitan Fire Service crews were called to the property in Martin Court, West Lakes, at 9:00pm yesterday.

Minimal damage was caused to the house's front wall after the bottle was kicked away by a neighbour and the small fire was extinguished almost immediately.

Hewitt and his wife Bec sold the lakefront house for $2.2 million in 2014. It was on the market for six years.

The two-time grand slam winner and world number one now lives in The Bahamas.

The house's current owner, Emmanouel, who asked that his surname not be used, said the attack was "no big deal".

"When you think about the commotion of it from last night, I don't know why the fire brigade came to be honest with you, have you seen the mark on the wall?" he said.

Police do not believe the incident was random.

They have asked anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area last night to come forward.
