Molly Ringwald's Daughter, Mathilda, Makes Acting Debut At 20

Anne Hathaway looks gorgeous.

Former '80s movie star Molly Ringwald, known for her roles in iconic films like 'Sixteen Candles' and 'The Breakfast Club,' is now passing the torch to her 20-year-old daughter, Mathilda, who is stepping into the world of acting.

In a recent interview with The Times, Ringwald, now 56, shared her initial reluctance to allow Mathilda to pursue acting at a young age. She explained that they wanted Mathilda to focus on her childhood rather than diving into the pressures of a professional acting career. Despite Mathilda's disappointment at the time, Ringwald believes it was the right decision, emphasizing the stress and uncertainty that often come with the industry.

Mathilda, now an adult living independently from her parents, is set to make her acting debut in the upcoming film 'The Idea of You,' starring Anne Hathaway. Ringwald humorously hinted at the unique circumstances surrounding Mathilda's conception, suggesting it may have taken place in the dressing room at Studio 54 during her Broadway performance in 'Cabaret.'

Reflecting on Mathilda's upbringing, Ringwald fondly recalled her daughter's early days, describing her as a spirited and humorous child with a strong will. She noted their shared emotional and determined nature, highlighting Mathilda's decision to use her father's surname, Gianopoulos, instead of Ringwald for her acting career.

Addressing the ongoing debate around nepotism in Hollywood, Ringwald dismissed the notion of preferential treatment, emphasizing that having industry connections does not guarantee success. She acknowledged the challenges of navigating fame and spotlight, noting that both she and Mathilda are introverted individuals who have learned to adapt to the demands of their profession.

In a separate interview, Mathilda echoed her mother's sentiments, expressing admiration for their close bond and shared passion. Despite occasional disagreements during Mathilda's upbringing, the mother-daughter duo has grown even closer over the years, forming a sister-like relationship based on mutual understanding and support.
