Molly-Mae stricken with 'intense' illness on work trip in Mexico

Former Love Island star Molly-Mae Hague has opened up about being stricken with an intense illness during her recent work trip to Mexico.

The reality star turned creative director for fashion brand Pretty Little Thing suffered a sickness bug at the end of her trip to Tulum. She said she was still feeling poorly three days after returning home.

Before falling ill, she said in a vlog of the trip she was wary of coming down with food poisoning and that she was avoiding eating meat and tap water. Molly-Mae, 22, said she was sticking to bread and chips while eating out.

She said into the camera: "One thing I am a little bit iffy about out here, is that I'm a little bit scared to eat meat out here. All of the stuff we keep going to eat is like meat, chicken.

"The guys are eating a lot of fish but I keep saying 'please be careful' because I know a lot of people that have come out to Tulum and have got food poisoning.

"To be fair, it's not even food poisoning, even the water is so different out here, we have been advised to not use the taps to brush our teeth, you can't have ice in your drink. It's one of those things, you've just got to be really careful."

Molly-Mae continued: "So when we keep going out for food I am just trying to just have veggie options, a lot of bread, a lot of chips, because I feel like they are a safe option as well. I feel like that whenever I go abroad or anything that's just a little bit different."

And she added: "I don't have a sensitive stomach at all. I'm really lucky. Touchwood. I never really get ill."

But at the end of the trip Molly-Mae, who shot to fame on the ITV2 dating show Love Island in 2019, updated fans to say she was home, but she and a friend had been recovering from a bug.

"I did end up getting really sick. Myself and Steph both got a case of, I don't know what it was, just a bug, a bad sickness bug."

She explained: "I started to feel really nauseous and I was nauseous for 48 hours before I threw up. It's been intense and I've been really poorly ever since.

"This is day three that I've been home and I'm not feeling the finest but we push through."
