Molly-Mae Hague's life before Love Island - part time jobs and her influencer success

It’s been three years since we first met Molly-Mae Hague on season five of Love Island where she met her partner Tommy Fury and since then, she’s become a popular social media star.

At only 22, she has worked with a number of brands in the past and now holds the role of creative director of clothing brand PrettyLittleThing.

She is definitely one of the most well-known influencers around at the moment, but what did Molly-Mae Hague do before Love Island?

Prior to her television stint, Hague was already on her career path of becoming an influencer, which is actually how the Love Island producers found her.

She told podcast Diary Of A CEO With Steven Bartlett: "I remember they came forward, and I just thought at the time my influencing was going really well, and there was actually a side of me that thought, 'I can actually do this without going on this show, I know I'll be fine either way'.

"My following was growing rapidly – I think I was about 170,000 at that point, and that was all organic growth."

Now at 6.3 million followers on Instagram, she told Bartlett that before entering the villa, her goal was to get to one million followers.

As well as creating content online, Hague worked as a lifeguard part-time in Manchester.

She also took part in beauty pageants as a teenager, once being crowned Miss Teen Hertfordshire and World Teen Supermodel UK.

In recent days, she has come into controversy, after comments on the same podcast last month about poverty and privilege left her being branded “tone deaf” and a “Thatcherite”.

Hague explained her belief that if someone wants something enough, that they can achieve it.

Many were quick to disagree, outlining the differences between those growing up in poverty and those in privilege.
