The dog breeder who provided Love Island stars Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury with a Pomeranian puppy has insisted that the dog was “healthy” before his sudden death.
The puppy, named Mr Chai, was intended as a 21st birthday gift from boxer Fury, also 21, to Hague, who he met on the ITV dating series last summer.
The dog, which was imported from Russia, sadly died just days after it arrived in the UK.
The couple said that their pet had “taken ill,” later explaining in a YouTube video that an autopsy revealed his “skull wasn’t fully developed and part of his brain was exposed” and that “he didn’t have a single white blood cell in his body.”
In a statement released on social media, Elena Katerova, the breeder behind Cheshire-based Tiffany Puppies, said that she “cannot understand why such a healthy beautiful pup passed so suddenly” and explained that she is waiting for “full veterinary results.”
“I am getting lots and lots of messages, calls, voicemails, emails from people wanting to know what is happening,” she wrote. “And I truly appreciate your concerns.
"Apologies for the lack of communication, however I hope you can understand that Chai's passing has really affected us massively and we just cannot understand why such a healthy beautiful pup passed so suddenly.
"Truth being told we are awaiting on full veterinary results and conclusion [sic] as we want to understand everything as things are currently not making sense."
Tiffany Puppies has previously provided reality stars like Love Island’s Laura Anderson and Belle Hassan and The Only Way Is Essex’s James Locke with pets.
Hague and Fury have since urged “anyone [who] is thinking about importing a dog” to “just think twice.”
A previous statement from Tiffany Puppies said the business “only work[s] with trusted people” and has “a small network of reputable breeders who care for their dogs to the very highest standards,” as well as “rigorous processes in place to check animal health.”
