Molly-Mae Hague has addressed the backlash over the outfit she wore to niece Venezuela Fury’s wedding, admitting she was left “severely humbled” by the reaction.
The heavily pregnant influencer, 27, came under fire after attending the family wedding in the Isle of Man wearing a black semi-sheer ensemble, with some critics questioning both the colour and style choice for the occasion.
Speaking in a new YouTube vlog, Molly-Mae explained that deciding whether to attend at all had been uncertain given she is now 39 weeks pregnant and due to give birth any day.
But determined to support fiancé Tommy Fury’s family — and, crucially, their daughter Bambi, three, who had been chosen as one of Venezuela’s 18 bridesmaids — she made the trip.
“I was what can only be described as Bambi’s chaperone for the wedding,” she said. “There was not one part of me that thought about what I was going to look like.”
The former Love Island star said her focus was entirely on making sure Bambi could enjoy the experience, describing the big day as her daughter’s “dream”.
“We had Venezuela’s wedding, it was touch and go whether we’d be able to go,” she said. “Baby seems pretty cosy. But I didn’t care what I looked like… Bambi had been asked to be a bridesmaid and I really wanted to honour that and obviously be there for the family and just show up.”
Molly-Mae also admitted she was caught off guard by the criticism, revealing she hadn’t realised wearing black to a wedding was considered controversial by some.
“Since when was it not acceptable to wear black to a wedding? Because I never thought that,” she said.
Reflecting on the reaction after photos from the day emerged, she added: “I had a bit of a spiral this morning. I don’t know why I didn’t think about the pictures and videos coming out. Because in my head I was just thinking about the wedding and it’s their day, it’s about them.”
She clarified that while she hadn’t prioritised her appearance, she had put some effort into the outfit, including having the jumpsuit tailored, though her hairstyle changed last minute.
“Obviously if you can, that’s what you’re going to do,” she said. “I did get that jumpsuit tailored and everything. But the hair… I had my hair done in the morning, I had this really gorgeous bun. But I ended up taking it out and slicking my own bun back in.”
Despite the online commentary, Molly-Mae said attending was absolutely worth it for Bambi.
“I’m so, so glad that we went,” she said. “It was such a nice day. I don’t think Bambi will ever get over it. I think she thought she was in a dream.”
Tommy, however, did not attend the wedding, reportedly missing the family celebrations due to boxing training ahead of his upcoming bout with Eddie Hall at Manchester’s AO Arena on June 13.
Before the ceremony, Tommy’s sister-in-law Paris Fury praised Molly-Mae for making the journey while heavily pregnant.
“She is incredible. She is being fully supportive, and she is bringing Bambi over, so that Bambi could be a bridesmaid with the kids,” Paris gushed ahead of the big day.
“But I have got to throw her props. She is making that journey while heavily pregnant and I wouldn't have been able to face that while I was at her term of pregnancy.”
She added in an interview with The Sun On Sunday: “I'm very glad that they are coming. It means a lot. It's a big journey for anyone to come from home to here.”
“It's lovely that they are making the effort. It's lovely that Bambi and the other little girls all get to be bridesmaids. They are all cousins and it's sweet that they'll make memories together.”
After the ceremony, Molly-Mae and Bambi made a swift exit, travelling home by private jet.
The influencer, who is due to welcome her second child any day now, skipped the evening celebrations and made a swift departure from the Isle of Man.
They reportedly travelled home by private jet, with the chartered flight said to have cost an estimated £15,000.
