Molly Goddard has launched a bridal collection, injecting the wedding world with 12 ready-to-wear gowns in her signature oversized silhouette.
The East London-based designer – who hit fashion headlines when one of her pink tulle dresses featured in the hit BBC drama Killing Eve, on the back of assassin Villanelle (Jodie Komer) in 2018 – has been a firm favourite in the fashion world since launching her eponymous label in 2014.
Celebrities and brides alike have been donning her dresses for their nuptials, but this will mark Goddard’s first dedicated bridal collection.
Each dress in the line – for which prices range from £1,800 to £10,000 – are variations of iconic Molly Goddard silhouettes. Stand-out gowns include the Aidah, a knee-length skirted dress made from cotton and frills with a button-up collar, and the Heidi, boasting a halter neckline and three tiers of ruffles in the skirt. Brides can adapt the gowns by selecting from a range of fabrics, as well as a range of colours for the tulle, ribbons and veil.
The collection also includes a small range of metallic bridal shoes in blue, cream and silver, as well as a selection of bags.
Moving into bridal feels like a natural move for a designer known for her frothy, unapologetically enormous frocks – and it’s been on the cards for Goddard for some time.
At her spring/summer 2021 show at London Fashion Week, Goddard told Vogue that wedding dresses were a “no brainer” for the brand.
“I’m not belittling marriage, but there has to be an energy to it that’s not stern or serious,” she has told the magazine since, speaking of the importance that brides can “dance and move” in all of the dresses.
Since her designer skills were shown off on Killing Eve, the fashion world has been itching to see what the designer’s next move will be. At London Fashion Week, she told The Independent that she was “slightly tiring” of the discussions around Villanelle and was keen to reach pastures new with her designs.
Alongside the collection of ready-to-wear wedding gowns, brides can opt for a bespoke gown with the designer.
