Moise Kean sent off in rare Everton start during Carabao Cup tie at Huddersfield Town

Moise Kean has been sent off during Everton’s Carabao Cup tie with Huddersfield Town tonight.

The Blues striker, who started the second round tie, appeared to shove Duane Holmes in the neck after the pair had clashed off the ball moments earlier.

Referee Matthew Donohue needed little time to make up his mind and showed Kean a red card after just less than an hour played at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Kean was handed a rare Everton start by manager Rafa Benitez, who used the cup tie to give Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin and well-earned rest.

Kean saw an early effort go narrowly wide before Huddersfield keeper Lee Nicholls denied him from close range.

The £27m forward then had a perfectly good goal disallowed when he was wrong ruled as being offside, after collecting a pass from Niels Nkounkou.

But Kean’s evening would end less than 15 minutes in the second-half.

Having tracked back and won the ball, Kean and Holmes clashed.

Their tussle continued as both players ran towards the centre circle but Kean saw red when the players squared up to one another.

Holmes was shown a yellow card for his part in the fracas.
