Moira road blocked after tractor trailer catches fire

A tractor trailer was engulfed in flames after catching fire on a road near Moira on Tuesday afternoon.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene of the blaze on the Clarehill Road.

Dramatic pictures show the trailers load giving off heavy amounts of smoke while the flames are still burning.

A fire crew is trying to deal with the blaze, which happened close to the junction with the Bottier Road.

It is believed the trailer may have been carrying hay.

One eyewitness told Belfast Live he didn't believe there were any injuries as a result of the incident.

"I had seen smoke coming from the end of the road so went to check it out," he said.

"When I got closer, I could see it was what looked like a tractor trailer with a load of straw.

"The actual tractor and the driver seemed to have made it out of the fire unharmed thankfully.

"The whole road leading into Moira is blocked with smoking debris there though."

The NIFRS said it had sent four appliances to the scene and firefighters were tackling the flames.
