Moi Elyounoussi in Celtic thank you message as he relishes emotional Southampton return

Former Celtic fan favourite Mohamed Elyounoussi has spoken of his delight at returning to Southampton following his two years on loan at Celtic.

And he's thanked the Parkhead side for allowing him to play regularly and regain the faith of Ralph Hasenhuttl.

The Norwegian international enjoyed two seasons at Celtic, winning a treble in his first season at the club.

Able to play either off the left wing or supporting a striker in forward areas, Elyounoussi enjoyed a successful spell in attack during his time at Parkhead.

In his two seasons at the club he made 67 appearances, scoring 24 goals and providing 14 assists.

He has returned to the first team fold at Southampton this season and has been impressing since receiving his chance in the first team.

In two matches played this season Elyounoussi has scored four goals and provided two assists to his teammates as he featured in Southampton's 8-0 victory against Newport County in the league cup, as well as, scoring in the 2-2 draw away to Newcastle United.

Elyounoussi believes that his return to Southampton is always one that he wanted and that he can not wait to take his opportunity for the Premier League side.

Speaking to the Daily Echo, he said: "I have to be honest, that was my dream, to come back and to prove everyone wrong.

"But at the same time, I had other offers. I had other opportunities to go and play week in, week out.

"That was also in my mind if it doesn’t work. But after the two first games when I sat on the bench, I felt determined to come back, as soon as I get the opportunity I will show him (Hasenhuttl) that I deserve to play.

"So I’m really happy that he put the trust in me and that I can pay him back for that."

He added: "There were a lot of different reasons why it didn’t work first time.

"So I just want to show why the club brought me in in the first place.

"It’s still early days, I’m going to keep working hard, keep getting better and try to help the team as much as I can."
