Moi Elyounoussi and Kristoffer Ajer in Celtic reprieve as club announce pair are free to face Hibs

Celtic have confirmed Mohamed Elyounoussi and Kristoffer Ajer are in the clear following Norway's Covid crisis.

The Parkhead pair were allowed to return to Scotland on Sunday on the condition they completed a 10 day quarantine.

That followed Norway team-mate Omar Elabdellaoui's positive Covid-19 test that prevented the entire squad travelling for a Nations League clash with Romania.

It was feared Ajer and Elyounoussi could miss Saturday's clash with Hibs but, as Record Sport revealed on Monday, Celtic were confident that would not be the case.

And now the club have released a short statement confirming the duo will not have to self-isolate.

A Tweet read: "#CelticFC can confirm that following recent speculation both Moi Elyounoussi and Kris Ajer are able to continue training with the squad and taking part in matches."

Ajer and Elyounoussi were not identified as close contacts of Elabdellaoui and they returned three negative test results before heading back to Glasgow.

Norwegian authorities have the power to fine anyone in breach of their rules but, with the players on Scottish soil, the final say was in the hands of local health authorities.
