Mohun Bagan look to return to Indian Super League with a win

KOLKATA: Mohun Bagan Super Giant return to the Indian Super League (ISL) after playing their last match in the competition a month ago against Jamshedpur FC. In between the Juan Ferrando-coached side faced two defeats in the AFC Cup, against Basundhara Kings and Odisha FC, respectively. But that was another day and another tournament.

The team will look to make amends and carry on their good show in the ISL when they take on Hyderabad FC at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.

Both sides will miss the ‘home’ advantage as the match was shifted to a neutral venue due to the election process in Telangana.

The green and maroon brigade has won all their four ISL games thus far. However, that they stand third on the points table, behind Kerala Blasters and FC Goa, is due to the fact that they had played a lesser number of games.

The Hyderabad outfit, on the other hand, are still looking for their first win this season being placed at the bottom of the table with just three points from seven games. Hyderabad FC have scored the joint least goals, four, same as Jamshedpur FC, among all teams this season which has led to their downfall this season.

Bagan’s Spanish coach wanted to get away from the AFC setback and focus on securing three points in their next game. “We are professionals. In this life, you can choose the way. Our way is to look forward, work, and try to get in the next three points,” he stated in a pre-match press conference.

However, injury to some key players might make Ferrando’s job difficult.
